Program Note
Variations on an Unheard Theme is, above all else, relentless. Not in volume, length, or difficulty, but rather in psychology. On the surface, it is a set of five variations which obsessively adhere to the theme of counting (one, two, three...). On a deeper level, these variations represent a search for what has been lost. Five short fragments; satellites orbiting a missing planet.
