Program Note

The simple beauty of love and the aching sadness of distance find equal ground in Lay thy cheek to mine, love. This strophic song in E major starts quietly in the highest notes of the piano as the singer spins a sweet melody below, reminiscing about the thrill of new love. After three verses, the singer bids their lover farewell, and the music settles into a warm, if bittersweet, final cadence.
